uninsured? Was this the choice of the homeowner or was he unable to find a company willing to sell him a policy? If the home carried a mortgage, it must be insured to cover loss of the loan collateral. Did mortgaged homeowners pledge other collateral to protect the bank's interests? Lots of unknowns are involved, but your friend claims man/most were self-insured.
