I.e. Arizona State bails the Big 12 for the Big One in violation of its contract with the Big 12.
The grant of rights is a contract and generally the rememdy for breach of contract is monetary damages. Specific performance, i.e. requiring Arizona State to stay in the Big 12, may not be an available remedy to the Big 12 in this situation.
It's conceivable that going to the Big One might be sufficiently lucrative for ASU to just write a check to the Big 12. Not saying it would be, but it is a possibility.
This is a risk that the "investor" has to consider. It could consider it a nothing risk or a major risk.
