financial gurus are complete idiots about such things.

Another possible upside is if they can partner with private business firms to (help?) run the conference and schools in better fashion than the bureaucracies in the schools, many of which are government entities.

Perhaps they could improve marketing, run things more efficiently, find/improvise other revenue sources, etc.
