Today’s Walk Street Journal reports in the “U S Watch” section on page 2 that Judge Clifton Corker of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee has ruled the NCAA may not enforce its rule that prohibits a school promising NIL payments to prospective recruits when recruiting the player. The ruling would appear to cover both the making of NIL payments and their amount.
Existing NCAA rules prohibited a representative of the schooL, i.e. a coach or other school employees from discussing the amount to be paid to the recruit, terms of the deal, etc. Whether the prospect would receive an NIL deal and itS terms could only be discussed between the player and the NIL payer, who could not be a coach or employee, etc of the school.
