College football/sports has been the south’s pathway to self esteem since the Civil War. A defeated people who found glory through college sports. Their sense of honor will not be challenged without a duel. At least it is mostly verbal.

Why they hate Mizzou so much. They don’t know the state and just equate it with their Yankee oppressors.
