Has literally ZERO to do with your perceived "expectations". The housing market is not in the same universe as it was for boomers. Turn off the HGTV, it's not real. I am very glad to not be in the market now, and getting a sub 3% rate means I will likely never be moving again. Remember, people stopped having kids a generation ago. So those people you say are "demanding" big houses for families when they have no kids couldn't be further from the truth. Those houses are all the corporate mega builders are building. On the smallest lot size a municipality will allow, to minimum code. Then they change $300K for the "base model". Then you factor in the 8% mortgage and here we are. The "just work harder" BS and "You're doing it wrong" BS from boomers needs to end. It was played out for people my age (Gen X), and it's disingenuous at best to be spouting this crap off to young people these days when things are not remotely close to what you think they are in your boomer bubble.
