big difference between accepting one's government as legitimate and working within the system to change things one disagrees with, even very strongly and rejecting the idea of the legitimacy of the government at all. That is especially true when one believes that the government and its police are evil sociopaths who can kill you for violating even the smallest violation of any of their rules. A government which steals tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars from you every year via threats and will not hesitate to kill you if you do not hand it over. A government that 'puts people in cages' for things one doesn't even believe are a crime.
To me, a somewhat better analogy would be to someone living in pre-colonial America. If one lived in an area claimed by an Indian tribe and that tribe imposed severe restrictions upon anyone living within the boundaries of the territory they claimed and you felt their restrictions were absurd and that you were at risk of being violently killed at any time, and they took a significant chunk of your property every year wouldn't many people seriously relocating outside of this hostile tribe's boundaries?
