When to apply the rules. When not to apply the rules. This baffles you. That does not surprise me. But the letter of the law is rarely the best means to always handle the law.

However, when you begin punishing not based on law but based on your own personal views of what you wish the law was, or what you think the law should be, that is vastly different meat.
