I am not at all defending red flag laws, although I would be very supportive of investigating people and trying to get them help all voluntarily (Sal posted a Secret Service paper on this that was very well done).

This is you making up your own logic to defend your final goals. You are just like Spanky and DH and Hokie...you want your cake and want to eat it too. And you will continue to dig into your final beliefs by contorting..becauseto do otherwise will destroy your whole who you have supported system.
