The issue is two-fold. One is that Vahe is considered a rather respected sports journalist. He’s not the Ku beat writer. Nor does he usually write fluff pieces. Second, historically, ku’s cheating is an issue and it’s especially relevant today, since there are standing accusations against Kansas.
The star doesn’t want to **** off their Kansas subscribers in their time of glee; however, not covering it is unethical. Win or lose, covering it after the tournament is seemingly a given - let’s see what the kc star does. But it’s worse among sports media nationwide. Aside from the crazy Dan Wolken opinion piece in the USA TODAY yesterday, there has been virtually nothing reported on ku’s culture of paying players and every Self piece is a fluff piece.
But do you know what does often prompt sports journalists in to doing stories?
Fans bringing it up nonstop in comment sections and on call in sections everywhere. If Ku wins tonight,,which I think they will, it’s time for the sports media to pounce and bring them down. That’s something that sells newspapers.
BTW, I don’t subscribe to the Star. I read what I want maneuvering through paywalls like most people.
