our system of government, elections and actions of the elected representatives do speak for "us" and actions "we" are subjected to even if you yourself did not support it.

We decided blacks are 3/5 of a person. Then we decided they are not. Two examples. People agreed. People disagreed. But we moved forward with it as deemed appropriate in our system of government. That is known as reality.
