... conference
The payout won't be nearly as much, but that's already gone anyway. Effectively, as of today, they have no choice but to accept a smaller payout.
Add Houston
Add Cincinnati
Add Memphis
Add BYU
maube Central Florida
Or some combo of those 4
Believe it or not, it would be considered a P5 conference.
It would be a very good basketball conference and still have decent football programs.
It may slow realignment for a while.
You would think that over the next 10-15 years, one of those schools would emerge as a football power for the first time.
Maybe an Oklahoma State wins 8-10 conference titles and play for a couple of playoffs or titles, all of the sudden, they've made a national name brand that allows them to get into one of the big boy conferences.
The Big 12 has a bigger brand name than the AAC. Bigger than the MWC too.
Big 12's best course of action is to stick together with the 8 that remain, and add 4 schools that are pretty decent at football and basketball.
It would leave no doubt they would be in the top 5 behind SEC, B10, ACC and Pac12.
