St. Louis and Kansas City are the key sources. Occasionally 1-2 out state kids are D1 caliber. Those Metro areas hit hard by Big10, Big 12 and other SEC schools when the talent is ripe. Typical is 4-6 kids of 4* caliber per year. Very rare on a 5* but has happened. Good ties in Texas from B12 days, an occasional Georgia ,Florida or Tennessee recruit.
Starting to get traction in Indiana in the last few years.
