your 3rd point at the top is not being promoted as an outcome, at least not by anyone with a clue. No one expects to eliminate the virus through social distancing or other measures. If they do, then they are going to be wrong and confused for a long time. The only way that would work is by nearly eliminating human interaction which obviously isn't going to happen. Otherwise, the goal there is just to keep things at bay until an effective vaccine is available. Whether or not that is a wise or viable approach is a different discussion.
For the record, I agree with the herd immunity approach at this point. I've posted about it before, but my opinion is that after the initial lockdown, a plan should've been put in place to get everyone back out and about again while protecting the most vulnerable. And we can still do that now, albeit months late.
