You and most everyone else are missing the point of these measures and then arguing the stupidity of something that was never intended in the first place.
Respiratory viruses spread via close human interaction. Every interaction is an opportunity to spread the virus. Reducing the total number of interactions reduces the total number of opportunities for it to spread.
People packed into apartment buildings is still orders of magnitude less human interaction than normal daily life. So is cancelling MLB. So is virtual learning.
Now, you can argue all day long about whether or not this is appropriate or worth the cost or delaying the inevitable or whatever. I'm not really interested in it, at this point. But, I don't see how you can argue that orders of magnitude less human interaction is not going to have some impact on the spread of respiratory viruses.
