but that is my compromise. People's biggest asset is their ability to earn. There is also a need for time when it comes to retirement to allow for wealth accumulation in the background. We have moved from a country that has changed from a centrally planned wealth accumulation on your behalf (SS, pensions) to a self controlled wealth accumulation (401k, IRAs). Even in the early conversions, centrally planned wealth was taken into account as part of self controlled....and given that people are getting towards the end of their ability to earn, there is certainly a gap. My plan tries to unwind that gap, while helping those that don't have the earnings benefit.
You are correct that government will likely screw it up
