That story was written March 31st and mentions that the death toll was still less than that of the 911 attacks... < 3,000 deaths.
The death toll climbed exponentially since then and we now have 55,333 deaths in the US part way through the 26th day since then, and the daily deaths seem to have leveled off at ~ 2,000 per day... an average of about 60,000 per month and that is some 3 weeks or so after severe social distancing and lockdowns.
The case fatality rate for the flu is under .1%. That of the SARS CoV 2 appears to be 1% or more. The infection fatality rate (IFR) of SARS-CoV-2 appears to be .1% or higher, while the flu is far less than that.
