First, How do you know nothing had been or was being done? Are you a member of the Navy command? Thought not. It takes a while to get logistics together to replace a carrier group. Along with logistics on getting the new carrier on station, and getting them help, it does not happen overnight. Also the Navy leadership probably does not cover that with a carrier captain.
Perhaps due to lacking a suitable location to park said carrier group, its thousands of men. Not allowing them to roam all over when knowingly being exposed to covid that the best solution was to keep them on board where the exposure can be limited and controlled. Consider it to be social distancing the Navy way.
Two, National security trumps personal well being EVERY TIME when you are in the Navy. You joined the Navy for Christ's sake, do not like it go be a coastie.
Three, There are a myriad of security issues with going outside command for communications of this type. Doing so is basically declaring your unit unfit for operations through the press, in the past that was determined to be treason.
I do not give two ****s for his career, just the whining from those who have never served is amazing. He put his men over the mission at hand, exactly what you do not want in a front line commander. Its stunning he made it this far with this type of attitude.
Lastly I bet you are one of those people who think Top Gun and Maverick is how the Navy works. That Mavericks antics are anywhere near reality, every time I watch it it makes me laugh out loud.
