with your premise. It seems there was a clear and drastic danger to the crew, he had asked for help in the proper channels, and none showed up. If so, good for him to ignore the proper "protocol", ignore his career and look out for his crew. Screw the rules. I applaud his action and hope there is accountability up the line.

Which is extremely unlikely.
