to reason. It doesn't mean that mean that each man always acts rationally or that each person has to reason through the natural law to understand or agree with it. It just means that the body of natural law is developed through a generally accepted axiom and then logical deduction and reasoning. You can dispute it all you want, but you are disputing the nature of humanity when you do it.
It starts with the recognition that each human has a superior right to his life over any other humans. Unless you deny this basic axiom, then the rest of the natural law is logically deduced to establish rights to self-ownership of your body and mind and the property that is accumulated through the use of your body, mind, and other property you have accumulated. However, when you infringe upon another's life or property, then you have run afoul of the natural law as you have run afoul of the basic axiom.
When you boil it down, it's not that controversial. It only becomes controversial if you want to control other people and their property.
