Serious question about natural law

I believe, as did our founders, in a Creator who wrote on the hearts of man a law of right and wrong that I would refer to as natural law. For those who simply believe the earth and humanity were some random act of biological coincidence, from where does the concept of this law originate? Without any firm starting point and specific purpose to this law, would you believe it to be of a genetic origin if you expect all of mankind to realize and accept it? If it is merely an appeal to reason, how do you look at flawed humanity where reason and common sense are so subjective and expect there to be any agreement on what natural law would be and more importantly how it would play out?
