because they do, or should, make us think about what extent we're willing to cede our liberty to the State, and I think people do that in ways that are far too cavalier.

On the other hand, it's tiresome getting "in a Pickle" debate where he refuses to acknowledge that DH is absolutely correct. Pickle's "Natural Rights" have no more of a concrete basis than one's belief in God. They are faith-based creations of political philosophers. His system depends upon people accepting that those rights exist and agreeing not to infringe upon one another in the same manner (though not to the same extent) that citizens do so within a country.
