Saying you're in favor of free trade and demonstrating that you're in favor of free trade are two completely different things.

Buying into the use of tariffs (again, a universally maligned item by all schools of economists) as a tool to force action by other large governments is not being in favor of free trade.

It is the direct opposite of free trade.
