Trading partners are not. Continuing to ask them to see it our way is silly. It won’t happen. You try to bring about the desired behavior in ways that strengthen your position. That will vary from country to country.

Just like the end goal of WWII was the ending the war on our terms, to get thee it meant engaging in war. Tariffs are not a moral issue in my book. It is an economic tool. If we can use them to inflict enough pain so as to move China to free trade, I understand the strategy.
