That's what this "militarization of police" is all about. Don't go to an armed robbery with people using AK's when all you have is a S&W Model 15 and a Remington 870.
Officers are cross-trained because it's no longer in their SOP to sit back and wait for the troops in an active shooter (unless you are a chickensh*t sheriff's dept in FLA) but to be pro-active and enter the situation. Hard to do that unless you have the right gear in the trunk for your access. But a tactical vest with extra mags and an M-4 is too much "Police Militarization".
Try understanding why the police have had to adapt to what the criminals are doing so they have a better than snowball's chance in hell of surviving when the SHTF.
