That is the very basic definition of God.

Many philosophers state that we can know this from nature as we see it and reason alone... but that that is all we can know about God sans revelation from God to man.

Of course, the Jews claim that God did indeed reveal far more of Himself to them through personal revelation.

Christians assert that He revealed far more later when He became Man in the Person of Jesus Christ and walked the earth for some 33 years (~3 in public ministry).
