had people known we would play the whole year without MPJ plus Phillips, Roberts and Harris departures. People are able to look back in hindsight now and covet the loss of Barnett and Robertson but what were the thoughts on them at that time? At best some thought Barnett could probably add what they think Jontay will this year. I would go so far as to say, since Jontay is being projected as high as a lottery pick, the expectations for him is higher than Barnett last season. Point guard projections were essentially the same as it is now. One factor that goes weigh in heavily, will the league be better or no worst than the same.
Point being for those talking about guard play it was only being considered marginally better at the start of last year because of Robertson's and Phillips experience. Let's not forget however many here and elsewhere just saw Robertson as some low level conference quality type who may be an off the bench shooter. Defensive ability overall was very questionable. This year you have a known post presence that wasn't there and more athleticism to be as CM said an "elite" defensive team. So that will be a huge compensation. When you really get into it I can see where this team is about where it was last year. If so how that stacks up against the rest of the league will be the question. As far as NCAA prospects go we saw last year under the new quadrant system finishing in 9th place at an 8-10 with the right wins can get you in whereas versus a 7th place finish at 9-9 without meaningful win will not. I guess it comes down to which side of the bread you want to butter.
