being a 20 win season can be looked at as a success. Not counting the Kim years 2007-08 was the last time MU didn't win at least 23 games and several of those 23 win seasons were looked validly at as rather disappointing. In any normal era of MU basketball last year would have been viewed as rather underwhelming and disappointing.
I don't think there is any scenario so disastrous that 9th place could be viewed as good. Both NCAA tourney bid and top half of conference finish are baseline requirements in my opinion, and even then some seasons that meet both those criteria are arguably not good either.
