The reason it isn't possible is because of the frequency of deranged responses and defenses of the situation being exhibited in this thread. Right now we care more about pacifying those lunatics. But if the pendulum swung towards caring more about solving the problem, steps would be taken to solve them.
There is nothing fundamentally illogical about a ban and confiscation of killing machines that no longer serve any practical purpose in modern society and continually are demonstrated to be used irresponsibly and for mass harm to our society. That is actually a very logical reactive step to discuss.
