The people who hold the notion that taking their guns away is an infringement eventually die. The problem won't perpetuate itself as long as we don't raise new people in their place who hold the same silly notions.
It just takes action, and maybe a couple of decades of hard work. But not taking action will absolutely perpetuate the problem. There are countless examples in societies without backwards thinking that have already solved this problem.
