The basketball program is color blind.
The program will take ANYONE that qualifies and can play ball.
The fans will embrace ANYONE that qualifies and can play ball.
The idea is to win so that the program becomes more successful, can keep recruiting good players, so that the fans have fun, the players have fun, some players go on to professional careers - everyone wins.
That's the potential of the basketball program.
Bringing politics into the basketball program and saying that Mizzou is racist, or has racist fans or has a problem with 'systemic racism' will absolutely not lead to these potentials for the program but instead the opposite.
Cuonzo Martin can totally believe that some systemic racism exists at the institution without making that part of the basketball program in any way whatsoever.
By doing that, he will gain the support of maximum number of fans & players and increase his chances for winning.
By going the other route, claiming or tacitly acknowledging some sort of social justice role, he's going substantially the other route, and the results will not be pretty.
