People used to say "I hate you!" when they would see me chowing down on cakes and cookies and things and never put on weight.
I used to think that the idea that sweets caused weight gain was just an old wive's tale. Sweets were mostly carbs and they contained less than half the calories that fat did. Their problem, per the medical community is that they were mostly "empty calories"... no vitamins and minerals. But a multi-vitamin multi-mineral supplement should take care of that, eh?
But over time apparently your cells have become so flooded with insulin from your pancreas for so long that they begin to develop a resistance to it and it begins to have less and less effect. The pancreas has to pump more and more out to get rid of the excess sugar and it starts to wear on the pancreas.
Supposedly, that is a reason many people get type II diabetes.
