people wanting to lose weight. Supposedly the body reacts by slowing down its metabolism, presumably as an adaptation for survival when food is scarce. They say that makes it more difficult to lose weight.
But someone one here posted something on here with a link to a youtube video that had some doctor that allegedly specializes in type 2 diabetes reversal. I think one of the side videos showed something on fasting. Perhaps this one:
Dr. Jason Fung - 'Therapeutic Fasting - Solving the Two-Compartment Problem'

I haven't watched it, but might.
I remember reading that fasting was becoming something of a fad in Europe. People felt that it cleansed the body of toxins or something. I think some of them fasted for a week or more. It sounded kind of gross though, in that they had to give themselves enemas at the end of the fast for some reason to complete the cleansing. That certainly wouldn't appeal to me.
I also remember reading a book (
Adrift?)years ago of some guy who was sailing across the ocean solo & one night something smashed his sailboat, he speculated that maybe it was a whale that just happened to come up where he was. He ended up in a little rubber raft & spent weeks, I believe, drifting until he finally made it to the Americas... he had started his journey from Europe.
But the point was that when they found him there was some special procedure they were going to have to do because they thought he had not eaten so long. They wouldn't just give him food because it might make him very sick or kill him. He was able to convince them that he had been able to eat a little bit here and there periodically while adrift. He caught a couple of birds one time. He had also caught & speared a fish here and there, so though he was emaciated they could just go ahead and feed him. Apparently your digestive system shuts down if you go for a very long time without eating. More than just a few days, though, I'm sure.
