i agree. it's not that he's a bad defender, it's just that

he is really bad at keeping his guy from scoring. or penetrating and passing to another open player. or rebounding. or helping in those incredibly rare instances where his help might be considered beneficial rather than just getting in the way.

but in pretty much every other aspect of defending, he is at the very least mildly incompetent. calling him simply a "bad defender" really isn't fair. it's a bit of an insult to defending, really.
