As to your two assertions about playing solid defense and stretching the floor:
Um, no, and, when?
Falling down as your man blows by you baseline then body rolling into his legs as he completes the and-one is NOT good defense.
And teams aren't even guarding him in the corner anymore. His best chance at an open 3 is a walk-up 3 from the top of the key as he's late joining the secondary break.
