At the beginning of the year and after the first month, I was a big "It's about the (lack of) talent" advocate with this team. And that's what it looked like.
But given what we're seeing now and from whom, I think it's fair to say that Odom's biggest challenge wasn't what his players had below the neck but above it. I think that's what you call "coaching 'em up."
Pinkel left the cupboard on Offense relatively stocked and, while sparse overall on Defense, there were some key morsels remaining:
While they're all Tigers, a look at Pinkel and Odom signees on today's depth (plus a few key guys now gone):
Pinkel Players on Offense Depth:
Lock
Witter, Strong (gone)
Moore, Hall, Brown, Johnson,
Howell, Pendleton, Ploudre, Dubinski, Harris, Adams, Bailey
Reese, Blanton
Odom Players on Offense Depth:
Wilson, Lowary
Roundtree, Crockett
Floyd, Collins, Mason (gone)
Durant, Castillo, Simms
Albert O
Pinkel Players on Defense Depth:
Beckner, Logan, Frazier
Beisel, Lee, Warren, Hall, Burkett
Cheadle, Sherrills, Perkins, Wilson, Hilton
Odom Players on Offense Depth:
Harold, Anderson, Williams, Brandon, Whitesides, Utsey, Palmore, Turner
Garrett, Bledsoe
Sparks, Acy, Alton, Prewett
Pinkel Special Teams:
Fatony
Odom Special Teams:
McCann, Roundtree (KR), Floyd (PR)
Somewhat remarkably, MU only loses 6 of 24 on the Offense Depth next year and 8 of 27 on Defense.
