It's not unprofessional to show up for a job interview not in a suit.

And since all hiring managers have different expectations and different opinions, saying anyone should wear something specific for any job interview is ridiculous.

I think what you wear to an interview shows you have an understand of the job you're applying for. I'm not saying to show up to an interview in what you'd wear for the job, but is should be close. It has less to do with the pay and more to do with the job.
