going to retain Romar. It wasn't until literally the same day (within hours) of MU announcing the Cuonzo hire that UW's plan to retain Romar suddenly changed.

It's not proof, but it's a strong indication and highly unlikely the timing was a coincidence. Mizzmi27 did a nice job of explaining the most probable sequence of events, here:
