There are many ancient cults that claimed their leader rose from the dead. It was a standard marketing tactic used to recruit illiterates during that era.
Christianity didn't invent the concept.
Why did Christianity succeed so well with that marketing strategy? - after a few hundred years they sold out and became the religion of the "Holy roman empire". Christianity's success was a direct by product of the success of the Roman empire.
There was absolutely nothing holy about the Roman empire. That is why they were able to take over such a large area.
Why did the Roman's adopt a religion. It is a useful behavior modification tool. Many King's claimed a "devine right to rule" Absolutely none of them actually had a devine right to rule.
