When the old guys from eighties and nineties showed such tremendous support at presser and beyond, I realized how fractured the program had been. I rooted for Kim and liked how he got rid of that class one by one, the AAU dynamo class, that had zero basketball IQ and collectively have gone on to do very little. I liked how Kim recruited MO kids, Puryear and Van Leer, and hired Tate to assist in St. Louis. Goes to show we need a mixture of philosopies, emphasis on state, but national recruiting as well. Also, we need the head man to be talent evaluator. Haith, Kim, and MA just missed on guys. Both that they brought in and decided not to bring in....Burke ring a bell? AAU is important tool for sure....essential....but it's not the only gauge.
So much has been missing the last 18 yrs it's easy to see how the program we grew up on had gone astray. 2012 was one of the most satisfying seasons, but it was hollow, the team flamed out in first round, but also there was little substance left to build on. Finally we can maybe sit back and watch a committed and dedicated and appreciative man lead this program. He is going to take some losses, but from where we've been I can handle losses I just want a solid team with guys I can like and root for, a team that will rebound and play defense. He hasn't coached a game, but it feels different this time...like we finally got it right. Sorry so long.
