Major conference programs hire from: 1) other majors; 2) successful lower D1 ranks; 3) successful assistants.
Major programs don't hire directly from the lower division ranks. While KA had experience as a D1 assistant, he had not been involved in the D1 game for 15 years (he's recruiting kids that were just out of diapers when he was most recently in a D1 program.)
UGA hired a DC as their HC; Was Odom the right guy - time will tell, but promoting a coordinator from your staff provides a much more likely path to success than raiding the coaching staff in Warrensburg, MO.
There simply is no comparison in BO/KA - either in qualifications or personality.
