I disagree. Religion, or some substitute for it, is really the way a person views reality at a foundational level. Eliminating that foundation destroys any semblance of order in the structure of a person's understanding of reality that rests or should rest upon that foundation.
The alternative would be a distortion and confusion of reality itself and a relativist morality that is in essence no morality at all. It would also be a denial of objective truth.
Humanism and atheism are the foundations for many who reject all religion, but they are no panacea, in fact they are extremely flawed foundations in their own right.
The bottom line for any religion or substitute for religion is that it should be set upon a foundation of truth, and should itself be true. A search for truth and a resolute desire to cling to the truth should be our goal.
All religions or substitutes for religion should be judged upon whether or not they are true and where they deviate from truth if and when they do.
It would be foolhardy, however, to reject actions and beliefs out of hand just because they are based upon or influenced by "religious beliefs". That would be rejecting truth when in fact those actions &/or beliefs are actually true, and rejecting truth is never a good thing.
