will take office in a couple of months and lead the country for the next few years.

To do that we are asked to vote for one of a small handful of candidates of which only two have an actual chance of winning the office.

If I am trying to make a political statement the polling place is a very poor choice of locals. There are many more effective ways of making your political beliefs known.
