Does a 'true Christian' believe in the teachings and authority of the scriptures? Or does a 'true Christian' believe in the authority of the church ABOVE the teachings and authority of the scriptures?

you should ask your 'cousin' ask him if he doesn't count a key element of his job to bring 'unbelievers' to see Christ as their Lord and Savior. You also need to ask your cousin if he doesn't see his mission as 'emphasizing the teachings and authority of the Scriptures'.
