Protect the absolute worst of their members and more importantly to protect their power.

Teachers unions are a complete joke and any teacher who actually strikes should be arrested on the spot. I had very strong philosophical differences with the principlal at my previous school. In my opinion she was more concerned with students passing than them learning. The solution was quite simple. When I decided that there was no reconciliation between our view I found a job where the principal had the same views that I do. Problem solved, no union needed.
