I think he felt being a geographic outlier makes travel rather difficult on the team and fans to attend games on the road and there are also no natural rivals being kind of the outsider. I guess SLU could find natural rivals in the MVC, but I don't get the impression a Jesuit institution like SLU is a fit in that league.
