He understood why SLU joined the league at the time, but he would fairly openly talk about why it made no sense for SLU. He would often times begin talks with alums and fans by asking if anyone could name all of the teams in the Atlantic 10. He was a big believer that it was difficult to have success in a league where you were such an outlier geographically.
