At best, he was hired to be a short term solution to leverage the inherited assets and resources in place. Obviously nobody could justify turning to a 60 year old whose prior experience in D1 dated back to the prior century as an assistant with a known fundamental limitation in recruiting as the ideal candidate to rebuild a faltered program. He was probably the least equipped possible candidate if we truly felt the program was in such a state and required a skill set of that nature.
