Your nuts..........toughness is a key component of football it is what determines winners from losers on a lot of Sat's.
The gulf between 40's,Shuttle times,
verticals ,cleans, benches, squats etc. is often miniscule even between NR-5* players. SO what determines the all airport looking team from the on field teams that perform well...why it's Toughness. The other Key component is football instinct/Knowledge which comes with focus, preparation from practice and hard work.
But if players are not tough or willing to bring it they are worthless on the gridiron and being athletic doesn't mean a player has the mental make up to stick it in some ones ear hole. I'm going to assume our preparation and focus of the mental aspects of the game are on point. I'm sure we have developed our players and that most are up to the SEC standards and averages.....so now it comes down to who wants it more and will lay it on the line with toughness.
I will tell you this this Friday we will be starting a Well prepped, smart, strong and fast OLB in our 3-5-3. 6'2 215 4.7 forty. He will be in 3 or 4 plays and we will replace him with a 5'9 190 OLB who will bend your face mask. Kids not as fast or strong. But with toughness and aggression he will get to and make more plays. While this is the high school level a similar analogy applies to CFB. Because in General most D-1 P5 players are pretty similar in athletic ability or at least capable of making plays if they have toughness and grit.
Toughness could even apply to the corporate work place if it was legal and allowed. Example say we are both working on the same project and have to turn in our reports the same day and I know your a little sharper and smarter but not by much but I'm F'n tougher so right before your turn in your report I bust you up like a female dog and leave you moaning in the corner of your office and then I turn in my report while you crawl of to the ER WUSSY. I get the VP job you get to work in the basement. Yeah toughness does matter.
