My first reaction is this was a great hire. Yeah, part of me wanted Sundvold. But this guy has a great resume and reputation, and was going to land back at some power 5 school soon, and we got him. Even with all the potential red flags here. I think it is an outstanding hire. He's 60, so he won't be here for 10-15 years. I'd take 5-7 years to stabilize everything and bring back some much needed respect here, to set the stage for maybe a Sundvold or someone else.
